An expanded meeting of the Coordination Council on the basis of the implementation of the Improving Medical Services Project under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, financed by the World Bank (WB) on December 17.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Nasim Olimzoda, the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Saida Umarzoda, the head of the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Tajikistan Galina Perfilieva, the WB Representative in Tajikistan Mutriba Latipova, the head of Improving Medical Services Project Mahbuba Mustafozoda, and other ministry’s employees.

Nasim Olimzoda spoke about the Improving Medical Services Project. In particular, he noted that this was successfully implemented and it is a good example of cooperation between Tajikistan and the WB.

In addition, the project manager Mahbuba Mustafozoda and Galina Perfilieva  made also speeches.

It was noted that within this project, the WB will work to improve the quality of medical services in 10 districts, including the Devashtich, Mastchoh, Spitamen and Jabbor Rasulov districts of the Sughd province, and the project is being implemented in the districts of Jalalolidini Balkhi, Farkhor, Qubodiyon, Danghara and Yovon of Khatlon province and Fayzobod district.

The goals and objectives of the project are to improve the quality and accessibility of primary health care services (PHC) with the help of modern methods of financing health care, in particular “Financing based on performance”, material and technical base of PHC facilities.

In order to ensure the high quality of medical services, 3,000 copies of the reporting documentation and 353 registration books were made and published, as well as employees gained access to the clinical literature.

It should be noted that during this time, more than 2800 medical workers received support under this project, and more than one million and three hundred thousand people received high-quality medical care.

The project was successfully implemented in 440 medical centers in 10 pilot districts, while more than $ 8 million (more than 75 million Tajik somoni) was allocated for primary care staff in the pilot districts based on performance and quantitative indicators. In addition, the internal and external parts of the buildings of rural health centers and sanatoriums were repaired.

In order to improve the level and quality of medical services for the population and strengthen the material and technical base of medical institutions, 37 primary health care institutions financed by the WB were built and commissioned.

Also, in order to improve primary health care at the expense of the WB, 7 ambulances worth 5 million 640 thousand Tajik somoni were purchased for 7 districts, including Devashtich, Mastchoh, Farkhor, Danghara, Yovon, Jaloliddini Balkhi and Ishkoshim.
