The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have officially launched a new project to eliminate tuberculosis in Central Asia on November 26 at the Serena Hotel.
Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan Mirhamuddin Kamolzoda, Assistant Minister Dilorom Sodiqova, WHO Mission’s Director in Tajikistan Galina Perfileva, USAID Regional Director in Central Asia Christopher Edwards, USAID Country Director in Tajikistan Paul Richardson, representatives of development partners, relevant organizations and institutions attended the presenting ceremony.
While opening the ceremony, Dilorom Sodiqova noted that after State Independence with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, tuberculosis study sector is developing in the same way as in other areas of health. Also, for this period working agreements were signed with other countries to reduce TB.
Christopher Edwards in turn said that the US Government is committed to support the governments of Central Asian countries in informing everyone about TB, treating people in need, and preventing the spread of this disease.
It should be noted today most TB clinics in the country’s provinces, cities and districts are equipped with medical equipment. Collaborating with development partners and implementing new projects will make it easier and quicker to find patients, while delivering better health services. One of the goals of the national and sectoral programs is to raise the level of knowledge and understanding of the population on TB.
During the presentation, USAID presented certificate to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan.
