The Financial Agreement was approved between the Government of Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) on the Project for Improving Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Services in Four Districts of the Khatlon Region.
The relevant Decree of the Assembly of Representative of the Supreme Assembly dated of December 18, 2019, No. 1548 was approved.
The total cost of the project is US $ 26.87 million, of which US $ 23 million is the share of IDB, US $ 1,005,000 – share of UN agencies (UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA) and US $ 2.860 million – share of the Government of Tajikistan.
The project will cover the districts of Baljuvon, Dangara, Khovaling and city of Norak of the Khatlon Region.
The project consists of three parts. Its first part includes the provision of equipment and development of health institutions infrastructure in the pilot districts – the construction of the Dangara Multidisciplinary Health Center, the renovation and reconstruction of the Norak Central Hospital and the construction of the Central Hospital in Khovaling.
The second part covers the provision of medical equipment and supplies to the central hospitals of four pilot districts and the Dangara Multidisciplinary Health Center. Also, 87 medical centers, 42 district and rural health centers with modern equipments will be built and commissioned. Additionally, 9 ambulances will be purchased to improve the patient transportation system to hospitals in the pilot areas, which will be fully equipped. This part of the project will also support institutional development, human resources and awareness-raising activities.
The third part is project management support.
