CHAIRMAN OF SUGHD REGION RECEIVED A WORKING GROUP OF WORLD BANK’S REPRESENTATIVES

The Chairman of the Sughd Region Rajabboy Ahmadzoda met with a working group of representatives of the World Bank led by Kate Mandeville in Khujand.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ahmadzoda recalled the World Bank’s financial support, saying that several projects and investment programs, including “Improving Health Services” were implemented in the region with the assistance of this international institution, reported the Press Service of the Administration of the Sughd Region.

Ahmadzoda emphasized that with the support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, special attention is paid to the field of health care, and the increase of funding year by year contributes to improving the health of the population, the level and quality of medical services, added source.

“According to the recommendations and instructions of the Head of State, this year the regional executive government body, striving to improve the level and quality of medical services for the population, has increased the sector’s funding fourfold compared to 2010 and brought it up to 416 million Tajik somoni,” stressed Ahmadzoda at the meeting.

It was also expressed satisfaction with the World Bank’s contribution to the development of the health sector.

It was reported that with the support of this financial institution since 2014 continues the implementation of the project “Improving Health Services” in the primary care networks of the districts of Spitamen, Jabbor Rasulov, Devashtich and Mastchoh.

The project’s goals and objectives are to improve the quality and accessibility of primary health care (PHC) services through “Funding based on activity results”, as well as to improve the personnel resources, material and technical base of PHCs. The project is being implemented in 114 primary health care centers in 4 pilot districts.

For this period, 42 items of clinical equipment and materials were delivered to village health centers in the pilot districts, as well as to Mastchoh and Devashtich districts – six equipped ambulances. In order to retrain family medicine workers in pilot districts, there were organized semi-annual courses and advanced training courses, as a result of which 475 medical workers were retrained.

The project also plans to build 14 village health centers in three pilot districts – Jabbor Rasulov, Matchoh and Devashtich, and to date, the construction of 10 health centers has been completed.

The Chairman of the Region proposed to continue the project “Improving Health Services” in the region, and to include in the project the health centers operating in the districts’ centers.

Representatives of the World Bank, expressing gratitude for the sincere meeting, expressed their readiness to intensify cooperation, and stressed that within a few days they will get acquainted with the project implementation in the pilot districts.
