The meeting of the Organizing Committee of the International Forum on Recovery and Rehabilitation of Disabled was held yesterday chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan Nasim Olimzoda.

Deputy Minister, sector’s curator, Shodikhon Jamshed, Assistant to Minister Dilorom Sodiqova, representatives of development partners, ministries and committees of the country, heads of institutions and disability associations attended the meeting.

Minister Nasim Olimzoda opened the meeting and expressed his view on the need and importance of this forum.

“The disabled are under the special attention of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, including the President Emomali Rahmon,” noted Olimzoda.

Deputy Minister Shodikhon Jamshed while delivering speech pointed out that the forum is being held in Tajikistan for the first time and it is aimed to attract the attention of the community to the issues of recovery and rehabilitation of disabled people.

The meeting participants also discussed the organizational issues of the forum, the organization and holding of plenary sessions, which include the availability of medicines for disabled peoples, education of disabled people, the pension of disabled people and their payment, problems of disabled people, the contribution of development partners in supporting disabled people and etc.

It was said that the relevant ministries, departments and organizations should be invited in order to take part and deliver speech in the plenary sessions, and they should present their representatives as soon as possible.

The contribution of development partners in holding of this forum at the proper level was noted as an important.

The exhibition of handicrafts of the disabled is expected to hold within the forum, and therefore the sector’s responsible persons were instructed to start preparation from today.

Following the forum, the cultural program with the participation of disabled is also expected to hold. Therefore, it was stated necessary to engage such talents from all over the country to participate in this event. Because these people should feel that they are an integral part of the society and are ready to present their craft and talent.

At the end of the meeting, the development partners expressed their willingness to contribute in holding of such a high level forum.

The forum’s holding will provide a good basis for addressing the problem of disability issues in the country.

We will recall that an International Forum on Recovery and Rehabilitation of Disabled will be held on October 18, 2019, at the Kokhi Navruz (Navruz Palace) in Dushanbe.

It is important to note that the National Disabled Rehabilitation Program for 2017-2020 was adopted in 2017 by the Governmental Decree of Tajikistan.

The program provides prospects and action plan for disabled rights, access to quality rehabilitation and aids services, and overall coverage of health and social services until 2020.

The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan signed the UN Convention on the Disabled Rights in the earlier 2018 by initiative of the President of the country.
